Review: GetYourGuide

When you have the opportunity to get away from work or life for any extended time, what’s your go-to? Do you staycation? Do you head to your favorite beach - near or far, to enjoy a beverage with a tiny umbrella in it? Do you hike out in the backcountry?

When I travel, I’m not particularly good at…vacationing. Let me explain — I’ve never been particularly led to, say, lay by the pool with a good book. I would much prefer to spend my time away watching the sun set at the Taj Mahal after a 6 hour drive to get there. I think there’s value in slowing down and relaxing. And if that is your “thing” — PLEASE do that! As Americans, we don’t get adequate opportunities to rest or relax as is, but that’s a conversation for another day 😬

I like my travel experiences to introduce me to places, things, and people. I want excitement! — no matter what the pace of the day may be.

That’s why when we travel, we seek out experiences that suit our curiosities and interests. Like the food market tour we took in Seoul last summer, or that tour of the Taj Mahal with our passionate guide, Vikram. Sometimes we’re hiking to a volcanic eruption in Iceland, and sometimes we’re driving through a monsoon in Kuala Lumpur. Whenever we travel, we’re doing something (and we’re doing it affordably 😉)

One thing I do when we’re planning a trip is see what experiences are being offered where we plan to stay or make stops. We do this for a few reasons:

Experiences allow you to meet new locals and travelers

Experiences introduce us to new foods, traditions, or areas of the city

Experiences help us check things off of our ‘list’ without having to coordinate each detail

And, experiences can help form a fantastic memory of the our travels

This is why we book experiences with GetYourGuide. It’s a great resource for vacationers, travelers, and anyone in between. GetYourGuide offers unique tours and experiences at your destination. You can also buy City Passes and find great day trips. A GYG experience can be a fun way to add a side quest to any trip - vacation or otherwise.

The detailed description and reviews on each posting will help you decide if this is the experience for you. When I booked, it was incredibly easy to compare experiences in the area and choose the one that met my interests and pricepoint. The checkout portal had an easy user interface, and I received the email confirmation right away!

GetYourGuide experiences tell you your free cancellation range (typically up to 24 hours in advance), they tell you how long the experience lasts and what you can expect to do, and they tell you how many people can be hosted in a group. Reviews can be filtered by traveler type - like solo travelers or families, so you can review experiences that would work well for you.

What I think I like the most about is that experiences are hosted by locals - local residents and local businesses. We love supporting small businesses when possible, and GYG takes the work out of it.

So take that cooking class in Chiang Mai and learn how to make Thai classics

Take a tour Hobbiton in New Zealand and enjoy a beverage on the house (and yes, it comes in pints)

Stroll through the Vatican Museums with the Key Keeper before opening time as he prepares for the day

Enjoy your next trip, no matter what you do, and give GetYourGuide a try today.
